Climate Capital: What made you want to solve this problem?
Eric: There are half a billion fossil fuel burning machines in the US. We have better electric versions of just about all of them, but it can be hard to install those electric machines. So we need to make it easy to ditch a fossil fuel machine for an electric one.
Climate Capital: What are you building?
Eric: We make energy storage equipped appliances, starting with an induction range. This makes it easy to swap out a gas range, addressing 330 million tons of carbon and 500,000 cases of childhood asthma.
Climate Capital: What is next?
Eric: We started as a project at Otherlab, funded by a grant from the Department of Energy. This funded our core researching into building energy storage equipped appliances, and narrowed our focus to starting with an induction range.
Climate Capital: What are the core elements of the culture you are building at your company?
Eric: Our learning cycle is a combination of everyone sharing their weekly intentions, then on a monthly basis reflecting on progress toward those intentions and how we might grow to do better next time.
Climate Capital: What are the key challenges as you scale your company?
Eric: We're making hardware, so building and scaling the supply chain and logistics is always the hard part!
Climate Capital: What have you learned that you want to share with other founders?
Eric: There's nothing like making something and going out into the market to understand where the actual interest and opportunity exists for what you're working on. You have an idea, but you never know what's really out there.
Climate Capital: How can the broader climate community help you on your mission?
Eric: We're always keen to meet people involved in renovations or multi-family property portfolio owners.
